Note on July: I'm actually working early! I have three layouts already done... and I'm going to work on a 2-3 more projects. I haven't even gotten to my 'favorite' materials in the kit yet. This has been an exciting year - and from the looks of what you ladies sent... it's only getting better.

Theresa's June Results

This month was a little wacky for me. I really liked the papers and materials this month. I feel like I had a hard time using them though. I *really* went a little nuts with the rub-on sheet. Just.... stop me next time. :-)

Needless to say, I was inspired by the friendship theme to dig back into some files and use some pictures that had not yet been properly scrapped. They are now in my ORMV book to stay!

I made a birthday card for A's mom... but I was so excited to send it that I forgot to take a picture before I dropped it in the mail. The next time we're in SC, I'll snap a shot and edit this post.

Marieke's June Results

Well, I had grand plans for posting early. Oh, well. This month I'm making no promises for next month.

Originally, inspired by Theresa's ferry building card, I was going to make some cards from this month's kit but scrapped (pun intended) that idea and decided to go with another layout. I really need to finish this album and get it out of my life, so I am working toward that for the next day or so and I'm going to push hard to finish it. This layout is one step closer to being done.

I think the cards I had in mind would have turned out really cute, so I may try to do something similar in the future. I was going to use some vintage patriotic images like the one below and make a shabby chic, stitched together card. But I need to finish up Kurt's album, so I decided to go with another layout.

In general, I love how this layout turned out. I think the only thing I would change would be to mat the photo collage on plain blue with a thin border. I was inspired by Rachel's layouts to put together a photo collage. It's a great way to get a lot of photos on one page. I like how the Seattle postcard is a photo collage, too. I like how they resonate. There were a couple of other postcards (one with Cyn's handwriting on the back which I wasn't about to paste down), a polaroid similar to the car driving through the tree photo, and a menu from their tea at the Empress Hotel. I decided the best thing to do would be to make a pocket for those items.

Here's something pretty ironic. I got the idea for stitching the pocket and the idea for folding back those pieces on the border from that Creating Keepsakes video I bitched about on my blog. After watching it, I was tempted to keep it, pay the $7 and receive more of them. It was actually pretty awesome and packed with ideas. Here are a couple awesome tips from the same video:

1. Use the back of a mouse pad for the cushion under your paper when piercing.
2. Use your paper piercer to open the little tabs on the back of a brad and roll the handle of your paper piercer between them to smooth them down. It's awesome!!!! Brads don't hurt my fingertips anymore.

I also like the maple leaf. I found an outline of a maple leaf image online and figured out a short cut for tracing it. I laid the printed out image over the red paper. Then I simply took a ball point pen and pressing firmly, I traced the image. When I lifted the paper with the maple leaf image, an impression of the pen marks was pressed into the paper. No need to cut out the image of the maple leaf first, no pencil marks to erase. I decided to add some black outlining to the leaf to tie in the black title. I am getting so sick of black printing. A color printer is at the top of my wish list.

Okay, so I just have to say that I am so excited to do next month and play with the vintage materials Rachel put together. Yay!!!!

Rachel's May Results

Apologies for the delay. May was a crazy month for me but I am happy to finally be able to post my layouts for this month. I love this kit!

Layout #1:


I have been wanting to do a then and now layout for a while, and the juxtaposition of these two photos made it all fall into place.

This layout was a big risk for me. I wanted to play with white space and a hand doodled border. And I finally got to use the white doodling pen! Harder than I thought, but I'm happy with the results.

Theresa's May Results

Hello ladies! It's a little late in the month - but I feel like I'm gaining a little of my scrapping groove back. My dining room looks like a paper tornado went through it - but I'm having fun!

Layout #1 of 2

I have to admit that I was completely intimidated by the abundance of different shades of purple this month. I actually fell in love with the deep purples and loved the lavender contrasts. This layout seems "in your face" with the photo - but it's a photograph I really like. It reminds me of a time that was sad, but really special with my mom. Our relationship has changed so much since then that I miss the time we spent at the ferry building. It's all very nostalgic for me now. That's probably why I created a card too! (I don't think the card quite fits the rules - but I'll still show it, below.)

I have an abundance of Leeloo pictures right now that I'm inspired to work with. She is so cute and her facial expressions knock my socks off.

Marieke's May Results

How does time go by so fast? I can't believe this is our fifth month. Wow.

I am actually pretty happy with what I have accomplished because if it weren't for this club and the pressure to complete a project, I might not ever get started on or finish anything.

So here is is my May project - another one for Kurt's album. This is Grandma Barb with Spencer and Alex. Kurt is in one photo and cousin DJ is in the other.

I added the white doodling to delineate the patterned paper and because it needed to be jazzed up a bit. I drew the circle with a protractor and hand-cut it out, then inked the edges to distress it a bit and hide the jagged edges from the hand-cutting.



I am including the one below even though I didn't make it for the purpose of this club and even though it uses two "outlawed" items (since they weren't in the kit) - the Prima flowers and the doily. I made this layout 5 months ago at Christmas time. I went down to California at Thanksgiving and brought way too much stuff with me so I pared it down to a more limited selection when we went down at Christmas. Too limited as it turned out. I needed to steal from the May kit in order to have something to work with. So here is another result using almost identical materials. This was the first time I had used torn paper in a layout - still not sure about it. The photos are of Cyn when she was a girl and her family moved to Chula Vista.

I just received an email letting me know Rachel has pretty much convinced her friend Claudia to join in the fun. I'm very excited as I think this club works best when we can see more results. I can't wait to see what she comes up with.
