Claudia's October Results

I *loved* this kit. I have wanted to make a Halloween album, and I took the kit as a sign from above (or up north) to get started. Thank you, Marieke! The album is 8x8, and I was able to make 1 single page layout and 4 double page layouts. (Yes, I went a little crazy.) I used the minitags to label the year, one layout per holiday.

2001: I hid the journaling; the second picture shows the page with the flap open. This was the first time I've used clear stamps, which I really liked. I don't do a lot of stamping, but I can definitely see myself getting into it.

2006: I used the yellow cardstock in to kit to "light up" the felt jack-o'lanterns.

2007 - I used the clear stamps to make the spider border. And I really loved the spiderweb punched border! I used every last bit.

2008: The right side didn't turn out how I had hoped. I know I kept the green cape I made for Gavin, but I can't find it. I had hoped to use some of the fabric on the layout. (Shaughn suggested making a mini-cape as an embellishment, which I thought was adorable... I knew he had the makings of a scrapper!)

2009: Here's the rest of the spiderweb border!

Thank you again, Marieke! Your kit really inspired me.

  1. Okay, Claudia, you are putting me to shame. I am afraid I am going to have to scraplift you this month AGAIN, because these layouts are adorable! I can't believe you made an entire album. You are amazing. Putting the yellow cardstock behind the orange felt pumpkins was seriously inspired by the way. I was racking my brain before we left about how to go about putting together a layout with a kit that is almost overwhelming in its possibilities. I really wanted to finish my project before our trip, but it will have to wait until we get back. Now all of your great ideas have got the wheels turning again. I love the way you used the background papers and chose to mat the photos at times and sometimes not. And somehow you managed to avoid the "embellishment sneeze" - even though your layouts are smaller (8x8), they don't seem too busy - the balance is just right. Fantastic job!

  2. Claudia - I am inspired that you made an entire album! These layouts are great. The Vato story is so cute. I can only imagine the two of you in that bar..

    But I digress.

I must confess that I haven't stated on October yet. I have no idea what I'm going to do because I don't think I have a lot of halloween inspired pictures. I loved seeing your layouts though - the possibilities abound!

My favorite element of your pages continues to be the journaling. I love the year tags and the stories on your pages. I think these really add depth and provide a personal connection to your craft.

I am so glad you joined our motley crew. I am looking forward to meeting you (soon!?) and hanging out at CU 2011.

  3. I love these, Claudia. I feel a bit like I am repeating myself, but you are so very talented and creative.

I, too, loved your Vato layout and especially the photos. I laughed out loud when I realized that was you. You've got massive cajones to go around dressed like that. I love it. :-) That's a great layout, too. I love the way the journaling was done - the way it was hidden in the card - and I love your use of the stamps. Just a warning: stamping is addictive.

Gavin makes an adorable Superman and this layout is great! I love how you put all of the various pumpkin-themed papers and embellishments together here. It makes the layout look very cohesive. Actually, I noticed that you did that with all of your layouts this month, you put like with like and I love that. This kit was kind of all over the map in Halloween town (I just couldn't stop adding stuff), and I loved how you made each layout feel deliberate and put together, as if each was planned on its own. Also, I love love love how you lit up the eyes of the jack-o-lanterns. So clever! I never would have thought of that. This brings me to another point about your layouts in general. I love how you finish them off with the details, like the little brads added after the tri-color ribbon in last month's layout of Mia. I love your attention to detail.

I love your kitty layout. It's crazy how well that paper worked with those photos of Mia and Gavin. I love how you used the lavender paper for the opposing side. It looks so perfect! It was so smart of you to use the lavender paper on the kitty side for the journaling to tie it in more. Such a cute layout!

And your spider web layout is adorable, too. I love how you put the remaining pieces of the spider web borders on the edge of the photos. It looks so cute! By the way, that is an adorable photo of Mia. I love ladybugs and she looks so freaking cute all dressed up for Halloween. I almost forgot to mention that I love how you made the jack-o-lantern "pop". I love having some of my embellishments pop to give my layouts a more dimensional feel and this looks great.

I can't believe how many layouts you got with this kit. It is truly astonishing - and they are all beautiful and well thought out, which is no mean feat. Your use of the materials - the way you put like color with like color (the lavender paper with the kitty paper) and like theme with like theme (all of the pumpkin-related papers and embellishments together) was awesome. It made each layout looked so coordinated. I loved seeing your results. I, too, am so glad you joined our "motley crew", as T put it.
