Theresa's First Minibook

Back in late June I attended a crop night at a local scrapbook store in Berkeley. I had so much fun! I was intimidated at first, but ended up learning so much from the other 'scrappers' there.
Many of the women around me were working on PunkySprouts mini albums. They sell a line of blank mixed-media books (chipboard combined with canvas and clear acrylic sheets). I was inspired!

Here is my first minibook. The actual size is approximately 6x8.5 inches. What do you think?

A BEAUTIFUL DAY

  1. This is so gorgeous. Are you sure this wasn't the sample book for the class? Because it could have been. This is a serious work of art. How did you create all the bridge images? Is that paint?

  2. Thanks for the comment! I didn't really take a class. I just picked out some photos and fancy paper and started playing. All of the graphic backgrounds are printed papers. The solid backgrounds (black) are painted or plain (canvas). I had a lot of fun making this book, and may try another one. It works well for a series of photos around the same subject.
Punky Sprouts books sort of force you to be creative because there is a combination of chipboard, canvas and acrylic pages. (I never thought of scrapping on canvas before!)

Anyhoo - Checkout scrapbookterritory.blogspot.com and see if there are any dates that work for you. I think they just posted their crop night schedule through the end of the year. If Marieke ends up spending some time in CA, we should go to one together (Claudia - are you up here too, sometimes?).

Looking forward to seeing everyone's August posts.

  3. I am just blown away by this project. This looks like the sample book for a class that you should be teaching. Seriously. I will check out the schedule and email you about the classes. Talk soon!

  4. Theresa, this is stunning! I love mini books in general, but this is just absolutely gorgeous!

While every single page is wonderful and a work of art, I'll just touch on some of my favorite parts. I love the typed words cut up and glued together - that is one of my favorite looks and it works so well here. I love the page with the buttons where you have tied string into bows through the button holes. Another one of my favorite looks and I love how you have several collected together with the anchors. That looks so adorable. I love when there are little groups of embellishments like this. So cute! I love how that photo of your mom and dad by the Golden Gate Bridge looks worn, faded and old. I just LOVE the feel of that. Finally, I love how your wrote with white ink for the "Dad ♥ Boats" journaling (this journaling was adorable), the waves on the tab, and the "Marin County Harbor" title and border. Such cute details and touches.

Again, this album was a work of art and was just beautiful. I LOVED looking at it. Amazing. Just amazing.
