July 2011 Kit

This month's challenge is hosted by Theresa, and it is called Chopped 3-2-1 (inspired by the Food Network).

The rules are as follows. You must create at least one project (e.g., a card or layout), in which you use items from three separate groupings.

(1) Use three pages from the calendar supplied (which should make up at least 25% of the visible space).

(2) Use at least two separate elements from "2" bag consisting of rub-ons, tag book and ribbon.

(3) Use at least one piece from the embellishment bag, consisting of metal items and office supplies.

Good luck!

Theresa's March 2011 Results

Pretty simple, eh?
I was organizing some kit supplies on my table one day and these items from the January and March 2011 kits fell out of a bag together. That happening after a recent discussion with Rachael about Leeloo's birthday party - and voila! My March idea was born.
The inside - which I don't have a picture of right now - has a series of butterflies stamped up the inner seam. I like that stamp! (Thanks Marieke!)

Theresa's non-kit cards (through 3/6/2011)

Just some things I've been playing around with the last few months.
I love paper. I just do.

(Thanks for inspiring this one, below, Tammy!)

Theresa's February 2011 Results

By the time I got around to catching up on ORMV challenges, Valentines day had come and gone. (Work has been crazy!)

However, I looked through my electronic archives and found the cutest footsie picture of Leeloo and could not be stopped from making a layout featuring the photo for my ORMV book. I ended up taking some extra liberties with tools, I think. I used a paper distress tool, without confirming first that we really WERE adding new items to the tool-kit. Well, I hope that's added now. :-)
If anyone in the ORMV club doesn't have a paper distress tool let me know (I got extras in my CTMH kit).

(Note: Leeloo's eyes are actually blue and look blue in the photo on the layout. I am not sure what happened with this layout image - her eyes look too shaded here.)

Some extra things I made with the February 2011 kit:
(Sorry for the fuzzy pictures. I took these with my phone as my photographer was busy making prints and being an artiste!)

A HOLIDAY CARD:
I had fun applying the "ribbon flower" technique to border cut paper. It's actually easier than the ribbon!

Theresa's December 2010 Results

So, when I opened the December 2010 kit, I was happy to see blue and green papers and embellishments. I immediately thought of our stay in Santa Cruz for Christmas 2009 - the Dream Inn, chinese food and a movie! It was fun, despite also being sad because it was our first christmas without Dad. So, here a selection of images from that time.

I will most likely make cards and other things with the December kit since there are so many neat materials to choose from. (Most of the background papers/edges here were from the Dream Inn or the restaurant we went to.)
More to come!

Theresa's November 2010 Results

One layout, so far...

I managed to catch up with ORMV projects at the 2011 CU retreat. I have been wanting to do a layout of my parents and me as a baby for a while, and when I saw the November kit... I knew that was where it was going to happen.

I love the soft, vintage feel of the color palette and the family theme. I will probably make more items with this kit, but I wanted to post what I have for now.

Theresa's October Results

Layout (4 pages): Steve Skalle

I was quite ambivalent when I started to look through the October kit. I was giddy because there were so many possibilities! Conversely, I was also a bit confounded because I had *no* idea what to do with any of it. The main reason is that I didn't have much in the way of Halloween inspired photos to scrap. None, in recent memory. From this - and a fortuitous trip to BL - the idea of Steve Skalle was born. Did I mention recently developing a crush on the show "Bones"? Ah well - that was part of it too, I suppose.

We carried Steve all around with us the week prior to and of Anthony's birthday. He got jiggy at Anthony's birthday party and hitched a ride all the way to South Lake Tahoe for Halloween weekend. It's a shame he didn't get into the Rock Sugar concert. What I've shown here are the antics that arrived with Steve - giving Anthony and I some of the most unforgettable photo moments this side of 30. In these 4 layouts I was challenged to stretch that 24 inches of black spider border to the full 32 outside inches of the project. Not my favorite end result this year - but I so do enjoy those pictures. :-)

Pages 1 and 2

Pages 3 and 4

Card (1/1)

I couldn't stop with the layout because there are so many more nifty elements in the October kit! Instead, I went ahead and made a birthday card for a good friend. I know it's unconventional - but so is she (so I hope it's a hit!).

Theresa's September Results

Layout (1/1)

I absolutely loved the materials in the September kit. When I saw them I knew immediately that I wanted to do a layout of our friends' daughter Calder, playing with legos at a party we had last summer. When I actually went to scrap it all, I went into a sort of scrappers-block. It took me a long time to get past it. Looking at the wonderful posts you ladies put up were very inspirational - and you will find that I've lifted some of your creative ideas to finally get this one finished. All in a day's work indeed!

Card (1/1)

Among the many cool things in the September kit - I was most strongly drawn to the bit of blue/green/orange ribbon provided in the embellie bag. I don't know why, but I love it! I couldn't think of what to do with such a small, precious piece - but finally came up with this.
My friend Shirleyanne just recently bought a pair of (really expensive) jeans called "genetic denim". The embroidered insignia is double helix. If I could fit into a pair of jeans like that, I'd probably buy them myself. :-P
Her birthday was coming up and I just couldn't let the rest of the paper go back into storage without doing at least one card. Voila, the little ribbon that could became my artistic representation of DNA on a birthday card (for a science nerd like me).

Note to self: take pictures BEFORE writing on the card!

Theresa's August Results

Rachel - Thank you for putting kraft paper in the July and August kits. I love working with it!

I created a couple of Leeloo layouts and a card this month. I am becoming fond of printing on patterned paper and finding images online to enhance my layouts (see cupcake and flower). Since brown and green were in the color scheme this month, I made good use of a couple DistressInk pads. I hope that's OK!

These two layouts are designed to go together in my book.

Card, to comfort. Sorry for the blurry photos! I didn't notice that until I'd already packed everything up.

Theresa's First Minibook

Back in late June I attended a crop night at a local scrapbook store in Berkeley. I had so much fun! I was intimidated at first, but ended up learning so much from the other 'scrappers' there.
Many of the women around me were working on PunkySprouts mini albums. They sell a line of blank mixed-media books (chipboard combined with canvas and clear acrylic sheets). I was inspired!

Here is my first minibook. The actual size is approximately 6x8.5 inches. What do you think?

A BEAUTIFUL DAY

Theresa's second July post

I don't think this qualifies technically as a layout. It feels more like pictures with a little decoration. In any case, it was kit inspired. I *love* that deep orange two-toned card stock.

Theresa's July Results

I had a lot of fun with this kit. Thank you Rachel!

After all the crafting I've been doing in recent months, I have felt a little guilty for not working on my wedding album. Did I mention we were married in 2006? I saw the pretty papers and was inspired to do a layout with at least one of my wedding pictures.

The travel theme made me nostalgic for the time I spent in Bohol (a tropical Philippine paradise) with my parents. Turns out I had some photos printed during my trip that never made it to an album. Voila!

After I finished the layouts, I made some cards with items from the kit, but I used banned items and supplemented with other paper. I can post those if you want. Suffice to say, I had a lot of fun. :-) I can't wait to see what you ladies post!

Layout 1/4: Theresa getting ready for the wedding.
I think my favorite items in this whole kit were the little metal clip and black ribbon. I loved finding a way to put them into my wedding album.

Layout 2 and 3 of 4: paired piece with images from the Bohol Beach Club in the Philippines.

Layout 4/4: Anthony and Theresa in ROME! La Dolce Vita (or in other words: gelato per favore...)

Theresa's June Results

This month was a little wacky for me. I really liked the papers and materials this month. I feel like I had a hard time using them though. I *really* went a little nuts with the rub-on sheet. Just.... stop me next time. :-)

Needless to say, I was inspired by the friendship theme to dig back into some files and use some pictures that had not yet been properly scrapped. They are now in my ORMV book to stay!

I made a birthday card for A's mom... but I was so excited to send it that I forgot to take a picture before I dropped it in the mail. The next time we're in SC, I'll snap a shot and edit this post.

Layout 3 (oh boy. no more rub-ons for me.)

Theresa's May Results

Hello ladies! It's a little late in the month - but I feel like I'm gaining a little of my scrapping groove back. My dining room looks like a paper tornado went through it - but I'm having fun!

Layout #1 of 2

I have to admit that I was completely intimidated by the abundance of different shades of purple this month. I actually fell in love with the deep purples and loved the lavender contrasts. This layout seems "in your face" with the photo - but it's a photograph I really like. It reminds me of a time that was sad, but really special with my mom. Our relationship has changed so much since then that I miss the time we spent at the ferry building. It's all very nostalgic for me now. That's probably why I created a card too! (I don't think the card quite fits the rules - but I'll still show it, below.)

Layout #2 of 2

I have an abundance of Leeloo pictures right now that I'm inspired to work with. She is so cute and her facial expressions knock my socks off.

Card 1

Could I let the month go by without doing at least ONE ty card? I think not!
Here is the one for May - and I have to say, I think it's pretty!

Card 2

I don't think this card fits the kit rules, but I couldn't help myself. :-)
