Marieke's August Results

Yay! I'm finally caught up.

I had so much fun with this kit, Rach. Thank you!

When I saw the little "Baby" ticket, I knew this kit would be perfect for doing a layout on Hanna since Spencer and I call her, "Hanna Baby." She's not much of a baby anymore, though. :-( But she's turning into a great little kid, so all's well.

I have been wanting to try doing some flags for forever and they were super easy to make. I cut a strip of paper about an inch wide from the yellow striped patterned paper. Then I marked off inches on both sides. However, I offset the second side by half an inch so that each mark fell in between the first set of marks I had made. Then all I had to do was line up the marks on my paper trimmer and they came out just as I'd hoped. I used the brads to divide them on the layout.

I had initially used the whole card with the baby buggy on it as a journaling card but had to improvise when Spencer pointed out that I had spelled "were" with an "h" in it, "where". So I ended up just cutting out the baby buggy like it was a stamp and typing up my my journaling. I did cheat a little by using pink paper to print it out on, but let's just pretend I actually have a color printer and printed it out like that.

I printed the "HANNA" title on white paper (using the outline font feature) and colored it in pink, then cut it out. (Very time consuming.) I used the wrapper from the parchment paper envelopes as additional paper and colored the flowers pink. I made little flower accents to add more pink in, but if I had to do it over again, I would have used the little flowers that came with the kit. It's just that I was planning on using them as a border along the bottom, but then decided against it at the last minute.

I made the pocket to hold Christmas cards, photo collages, and handmade cards.

The journaling reads:

It has been such a joy watching you grow. When Spencer and I first met you, you were still crawling. Now you are talking a mile a minute and running all over the place. You are such a sweetie and we feel so lucky to be a part of your life. We're looking forward to the coming years as we watch you grow even bigger. But no matter how big you get, you will always be our Hanna Baby.

(Sorry about the photos - it's evening here and the light made the colors turn out a little wonky.)

Rachel's August Results

I decided to take advantage of this month's theme and do a "Baby's First Year" spread to use as the title page for Hanna's first scrapbook. Here is how it came out:

The baby themed kit didn't stop me from thinking outside the box a little. The "Sweet Pea" title and kraft paper inspired me to finally do a layout on our garden:

I used Picasa, a free photo editing software, to make a 12 x 12 photo collage.

I made the sweet peas by printing out an image I
found online and cutting it out and tracing it on to the green paper.

I also used some of my scraps to make a card:

Claudia's August Results

I enjoyed all of the different patterns and colors in this kit, and I liked the process of choosing what to use together for this 2-page layout. (They are 12x12 pages again, but I plan on experimenting with a different size very soon.) I took advantage of the greens and yellows (with a hint of pink) to do a page about Gavin and Mia as siblings. I used the flowers to back the alphabet stickers (except on "big bro" where I cut circles out of the green dotted paper... a little more masculine). I used up both "I" stickers, so I used an exclamation point... I'm glad that was on there! And I thought the cuddle paper ribbon went perfectly with the pictures of Gavin cuddling with Mia. This was a lot of fun to put together!

I was inspired by Theresa's technique of enlarging a paper accent last month, hence the big brother giraffe. I scanned and enlarged the giraffe on a blank page, then cut it out and traced it on orange spotted paper Rachel included in the kit. I drew on the eyes and mouth, and colored in the ears and hooves. I found the Little Sister poem online (which fits Gavin & Mia's relationship very well, although I think he causes her more strife!) and printed it on the craft paper. I'm posting close-ups of those two features.

Theresa's August Results

Rachel - Thank you for putting kraft paper in the July and August kits. I love working with it!

I created a couple of Leeloo layouts and a card this month. I am becoming fond of printing on patterned paper and finding images online to enhance my layouts (see cupcake and flower). Since brown and green were in the color scheme this month, I made good use of a couple DistressInk pads. I hope that's OK!

These two layouts are designed to go together in my book.

Card, to comfort. Sorry for the blurry photos! I didn't notice that until I'd already packed everything up.

Theresa's First Minibook

Back in late June I attended a crop night at a local scrapbook store in Berkeley. I had so much fun! I was intimidated at first, but ended up learning so much from the other 'scrappers' there.
Many of the women around me were working on PunkySprouts mini albums. They sell a line of blank mixed-media books (chipboard combined with canvas and clear acrylic sheets). I was inspired!

Here is my first minibook. The actual size is approximately 6x8.5 inches. What do you think?
